Sustainability statement

At T&K Shutters, all of our shutters are made from natural wood, and manufactured at The New England Shutter Company workshop. We only use the finest American Tulipwood for all our painted shutters. Tulipwood is recognised as the most stable and manageable of woods, as endorsed by the American Hardwood Export Council.

They confirm that "American Tulipwood is very widely available, and currently accounts for around 9% of the total hardwood resource growing in the hardwood forests of the Eastern USA. Tulipwood is a member of the Magnoliaceae family and is superior in strength, hardness and finishing properties compared to a bass or poplar wood. This combined with the fact that it has an extremely high strength to weight ratio make for a very versatile and high quality joinery timber." www.ahec.org

We are also supporters of The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) programme. This programme is based on the premise that responsible environmental behaviour and sound business decisions can co-exist.

SFI program participants practice sustainable forestry on all the lands they manage. They also influence millions of additional acres through the training of loggers and foresters in best management practices and landowner outreach programs. www.sfiprogram.org
